What do I need to know about professional development?

Every staff member must complete 20 hours of Professional Development every year, at least 6 of which must address diverse learners.

There are several early childhood education professional development platforms that you can take online or in person courses from. I will link some options below. If you are taking any college courses, those will count toward your hours. Certain adult education courses can be counted toward your hours as well if you can connect the skills learned to your teaching experience.

CPR and First Aid courses do not count toward your training hours but are mandatory.

Where can I get more professional development hours?

If this is your first year working with an EEC Program, you must complete the StrongStart EEC Essentials courses within 60 days of being hired. Please follow the link below to create your account and take the courses. These 8 hours count toward your 20 hours of professional development and must be recorded in your file at BSED and PQR when completed.

You are not limited to the options that I have listed here! Any professional development that you find that can provide you with certificate of attendance can be used. Remember to record all professional development in your BSED file and online in the PQR (linked above).
